We provide legal assistance or referral services in the following areas:
Special Education: We assist parents of children with disabilities who may be entitled to special education services and placement under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the federal law guaranteeing all disabled children an education that allows them to succeed in school and prepare for adulthood. While we have represented children who have had a wide range of disabilities, we specialize in assisting parents/guardians who have more severely disabled children in the following areas:
Students who have severe mental health, neurological or learning disorders that make them unable to succeed educationally, behaviorally or functionally in school, socially and/or in the family system, exhibiting behaviors such as self-harm, school failure, social isolation, or family dysfunction.
Students with varying degrees of autism that range from severe and dangerous behaviors with low cognitive functioning, to students with average to above average cognitive abilities but who are unable to function or socialize and become disconnected or self-harmful as a result.
Students with severe learning differences whose academic function is discrepant from their cognitive abilities and require specialized educational interventions to achieve any academic success.
Injuries to Children: We provide referrals to legal counsel who specialize in injuries to disabled children for families whose children have been injured and who therefore may have legal recourse for those injuries.
Non-public Special Education Schools: We represent non-profit and for-profit corporations that contract with public school districts to provide special education, residential, mental health and other services and programs to children and adults with disabilities.
